Are you too bored when you are tormented in the late evening after your exhausting job in one oft thenumerous and crowded gyms? But you may also be planning to do some physical exercise for a long time to gain more fitness and escape from this everyday life in a stressful time, which developed in the course of our globalization. Most people, however, stick with these intentions and tell themselves that today is not the time to do so, and then relax like watching TV every evening. So why not learn a traditional and unfortunately almost forgotten martial arts with one of the oldest weapons whose benefits the people of Okinawa had already recognized?
The Rokushakubo or Bo or Staff for short. This was used in different ways. Be it over the shoulders to use baskets filled with food at the ends easier to transport or in case of emergency to defend against those occupiers of the samurai who had banned the farmers Okinawa carrying weapons.
Depending on where you live, the range of schools that allow you to learn martial arts with the Bo staff varies considerably. These are usually schools that specialize mostly in Kobudo martial arts. However, not Bo-Jutsu as a unique selling point from Kobudo is dissolved. In Germany, in my case in the area of Frankfurt am Main, this martial art, unlike Krav Maga, Judo, Karate,Teakwondo, Wing Chun or boxing with its subspecies, however, is not widespread and the schools are mostly in metropolitan areas many kilometers from where I live away.
Another reason for this low distribution is the unusual length of this weapon.
Very few schools have enough space, for example, to teach an average of 10 to 12 students at the same time. The learning of this special martial art with the Bo can also be learned on my own experience very well in self-study. However, books alone make this nearly impossible due to the static images and the very theory-based content. In practice, only a third of the content read remains in the memory of the brain, the practical part can not actually be taught correctly.
