General handling, quick grip changes, attack and defense techniques as well as rotations with the Bo. In addition, there is the taking of the most frequently required stances, adding kicks and moving within different fighting distances and gates. The knowledge that will learned in this way can be transferred to shorter weapons such as the Kali stick, almost any object or unarmed combat.
During the kata or form training, the techniques learned are combined with one another. This creates a sequence that is similar to a fight against an imaginary opponent.
The Kata training gaining strength, endurance and serves to consolidate the techniques learned in an initially simulated fight. Through a focused analysis and breakdown of a kata into individual components, practical applications can be created and tested and adapted with regard to their effectiveness. When participating in competitions, kata are used for the purpose of presentation in order to compete with other competitors.
In sparring, the statically learned techniques are dissolved. This creates a dynamic and, if possible, almost realistic combat situation in a controlled environment. The exercise partners should apply the techniques they have learned, test their effectiveness and adapt them to new situations. They are confronted with different attacks and scenarios that need to be solved effectively.
Sparring is fun and an important part with the aim of developing a feeling for different distances, speeds and attack levels in order to be able to react to them with appropriate means - even under pressure.
Sparring is always about working together with the partner. Your own ego does not count here, rather both training partners should learn with and from each other. In the case of inexperienced partners, the sparring is gradually built up so that they can feel their way. With increasing experience and the necessary calm, the pace and applications can be increased upwards. To ensure that safety is always guaranteed during sparring, the training partners wear appropriate protective equipment. The security is additionally increased by defining the duration as well as the application or exclusion of certain techniques.
